To promote natural day light and cross ventilation across the house we proposed to proceed with side living facing east, and yet allow winter sun to get through the house during the day.
In this case, client wanted side living with courtyard on western side. This could potentially lead to excessive heat gain during summer due to the large windows and stacking doors coverage along the west side. We overcomed this challange by two elements: extended eaves projection and utilising vertical privacy screen as an artistic sun shading devices.
